Why I Choose to Stay Mysterious (And What My Mask Really Represents)

ree

There’s something beautiful about choosing what you show—and what you don’t. For me, the mask I wear isn’t just a costume or a gimmick: it’s a statement. It’s a way of saying: Look at the music. Feel the message. Let everything else fade away. I believe that part of being "human" means to experience emotion. We are here to experience all types of emotions and the most beautiful part about it is we all experience the SAME emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, grief, pleasure, etc. That is the beauty of LIFE.

If you read my earlier post Unveiling the Truth: WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THE MASK?!? you know part of this story already.

But today I want to go deeper, share a fuller version of why I’ve made this choice, and how it connects to everything I believe in and everything I’m fighting for in this global journey.

1. It’s not about me. It’s about the music.

From the start, I made a decision: when people think of ASKYE, I didn’t want them to see just a face, a hairstyle, an outfit, a gender, a skin color. I wanted them to see sound, emotion, connection. To hear themselves in the music. To feel part of something bigger. I wanted them to feel CONNECTED to me in a way that brings them peace and calms their nervous system. There is nothing wrong with my face, i'd be confident in sharing my music if the mask wasn't in the picture, but there is a deeper meaning to it.

ree

In my previous post I said: “My mask is a mirror. When you look at it, who do you see? … you see YOU.” Yes: the mask reflects you. Because in truth, I am not here to show ME. I am here to show WE. When the focus shifts away from “ASKYE the person” to “ASKYE the experience, the movement, the impact,” something powerful happens: we begin to unite—even if we are oceans apart. Even if we don’t speak the same language, or come from the same background. The mask lets my face be absent so your story can be present. It lets the music speak louder than any photo or headline. My mask acts as a mirror that simply just reflects YOU back to YOU.

2. A symbol of unity in a divided world

In that post I wrote: “This world is BEYOND divided. It’s so divided that sometimes it feels like everybody is AGAINST each other which makes me SO sad.” That sadness turned into purpose. The mask isn’t just about anonymity—it’s about bringing people together. When you cannot see the face behind the voice, you’re forced to face yourself, your emotion, your reflection in what you hear. My mask is my way of saying: we are one. I am you, you are me. We are human. One race. With all of the chaos and confusion going on in the world right now it breaks my heart. I want to be a sense of peace to anybody who comes across me and my music. This is a safe space for ALL.

So many artists live by image, aesthetics, trends. But I wanted to strip that away. I wanted to create a space where the only thing that matters is how you feel. Where you don’t worry about what I look like, but you listen, you connect, you vibe. The mask becomes a symbol: “Don’t look at the skin. Look at the soul.” Imagine if we all were in a room together and were having a conversation with our eyes closed and didnt know what eachother looked like but we were connecting and communicating on a deep level, that's how it SHOULD be. Regardless of who you are, what your background is, where you came from, what your skin color is, what you sound like, etc. WE ARE ALL ONE and I LOVE YOU!! Lets not get lost in the craziness of the world and focus on being inthe present moment of life.

3. Preserving mystery so the message stays strong

ree

Mystery has power. It keeps you curious, engaged, wondering. It keeps the energy alive. As I rise globally—thank you, by the way—you know the music, the brand, the movement. But you don’t always know everything about me. That’s intentional. Because the moment you know “everything,” you begin to compare. You begin to judge. You begin to define. And that limits. I want you to feel, not to label. I want you to interpret, not to assume. I want you to stay invested in what the sound makes you feel, rather than what’s behind the sound. My mask preserves that mystery. It protects the music. It protects the magic. It preserves the idea that this could be your story as much as it is mine.

4. A promise: we will explore the “me” behind the mask

Now – don’t get me wrong. I’m not hiding forever. I do eventually want to come out and show my face (maybe). There is a story behind the mask. A life before the spotlight, before the world started singing along. And I want to share that with you. Soon I’ll write a whole other blog post: “Life Before the Mask: My Journey, My Struggles, My Truth.” Because your support means everything to me, and I believe stories heal. But for now, that chapter remains a little private. A little sacred. Because right now, the mask stands between us and the outside noise. It stands for connection, not distraction. It stands for the music, not the image. I am still a human with a story, as are you. I just want the music in the forefront right now. This music IS me. This music is US. This music has potential to carry frequencies throughout the entire world and unite.

5. What this means for you (and us)

When you hit “play” on a track, when you sing the hook out loud, when you feel the beat in your chest — I want you to think: This was made for ME. Every time you wear the mask of the music, you become part of the movement. You become a mirror. You become a soul in a body. Thank you for being here. For listening. For feeling. For letting the mask vanish and the message remain. My promise to you: to keep rising, to keep creating, to keep connecting—to spots on the map, hearts around the globe, and to you.ILY. I couldn't do this without your support. This is not just MY journey, this is OUR journey.

Smile today.

XOXO— ASKYE
