How To Make A Bad Day, Good.

Updated: Mar 6

Today I want to share a few of my favorite ways on how to make a bad day, good...

Let’s be honest: some days just feel bad. You wake up late, spill coffee on your favorite shirt, and then, of course, your boss wants that project done yesterday. Add a side of traffic jams, an angry email, and you’re ready to curl up under the covers and call it a day. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to let a rough day dictate the rest of your life. As a busy woman, I get it—life is stressful, unpredictable, and, sometimes, downright chaotic. But, you have more control than you think.

So, here’s how you can turn a bad day around and make it a little bit brighter (even when it feels like the universe is testing your patience hehe).

1. Take a Deep Breath (Literally)

It sounds simple, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone into full-on panic mode because I didn’t just pause for a second. When everything feels overwhelming, take a few deep breaths. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, then exhale for 4. Repeat 3-5 times. I promise, this isn’t just something people say to sound zen—it really works. It’ll help slow your heart rate, calm your mind, and give you that little reset you need. Deep breathing will calm down your nervous system and allow you to get back into the present moment.

2. Make a Quick Win (Even if It’s Small)

Sometimes when your day is spiraling, it helps to do something you can actually control. It could be as simple as checking off a small task on your to-do list. That email you’ve been avoiding? Send it. Your laundry pile? Fold it. That dirty dish in the sink? Wash it. Getting even one thing done can give you a sense of accomplishment and make you feel like you’re back on track.

3. Go for a Walk (Or Just Step Outside)

I know, I know—you’ve got a million things to do, and taking a walk probably isn’t on your list. But hear me out: even just stepping outside for a few minutes can totally shift your mood. If you can, take a short walk around the block. The fresh air, a little movement, and a change of scenery can do wonders for your mindset. You don’t have to be running a marathon here—just a little stroll will do. Nature is free therapy and we as humans, forget that.

4. Put On Your Favorite Song (And Sing Along!)

Music is magical when it comes to turning a bad day around. Put on a song that makes you feel like you’re on top of the world. Bonus points if it’s a throwback you can’t help but dance to (I’m looking at you, ‘90s hits!). Sing along, even if you’re out of tune. Just let loose and have fun. If you’re really feeling it, take a mini dance break in your living room—trust me, it’s way more therapeutic than it sounds. This is an INSTANT vibration boost and will allow your body to release endorphins throughout your body when you can just sit in the presence of a good song, and allow your body to move how it wants. Try it, just ONE song.

5. Treat Yourself to Something Small

Sometimes, a little self-care is all it takes to flip the script on a bad day. It doesn’t have to be anything big—just something that brings you comfort. Maybe it’s a hot cup of tea, a bite of dark chocolate, or a five-minute break to scroll through Instagram memes. If you're a bath person, run one and light some candles. Treat yourself to a little moment of peace and joy amidst the chaos. You deserve it.

6. Reach Out to Someone You Love

Whether it’s a best friend, your mom, or even your partner, sometimes the best way to shift your mood is to talk it out. Venting can help release some of that frustration, and hearing an encouraging word or two can put everything back into perspective. If you’re not in the mood to chat, send a quick text or just share a silly meme. That connection—no matter how small—can instantly make you feel better.

7. Laugh at Something Ridiculous

Humor is one of the quickest ways to turn things around. Find something silly to laugh at—whether it’s a funny YouTube video, a joke from your coworker, or even an episode of your favorite sitcom. Don’t underestimate the power of a good laugh—it can be a total game-changer when you’re feeling down. Laughter actually reduces stress and boosts your mood. So, go ahead—be a little goofy!

8. Reflect on the Positive Stuff

Even on the worst days, there’s always something good. Take a second to reflect on the positives in your life—your family, your health, your pet (who always knows how to make you smile), or even that one coworker who always brings you coffee when you need it most. Journaling or even just saying “thank you” in your mind for these things can help shift your focus from what’s going wrong to what’s going right.

9. Give Yourself Permission to Call It a Day

Let’s face it: sometimes, a day is just a wash. If you’ve tried all the things and still feel like it’s not your day, it’s okay to give yourself permission to step away. Close the laptop, put your phone down, and focus on something that brings you peace. Maybe it's watching your favorite show, reading a book, or taking a nap. You can always pick things back up tomorrow when you're feeling refreshed.

10. Remember: Bad Days Don’t Last Forever

No matter how tough today might be, remember this: tomorrow is a new day. Even if it’s been a rough one, you have the power to make tomorrow better. Remind yourself that you’ve survived every bad day in the past—and you’ll survive this one too. Sometimes, just knowing that a bad day doesn’t define your whole week (or your life) is enough to help you get through.

Final Thoughts:

At the end of the day, bad days are inevitable. But they don’t have to be ruinous—in fact, they can be a great reminder of how resilient you are. Take a breath, make a small change, and don’t forget to give yourself some grace. You’re doing great, and tomorrow is waiting with all the opportunities to turn things around.

Remember: you’ve got this. ILY!

XOXO
